Why should I order from Valley Green Feast?
Ordering from Valley Green Feast is an convenient, affordable way to support local farms and build a just, sustainable food system in our area. You will receive healthy, farm fresh products each week. By offering home delivery, we are cutting down on the total miles driven to and from the grocery store or farm stand. We use bikes and bike trailers to make our deliveries in some urban areas. Together we are creating more sustainable community by linking consumers directly with farmers and lessening fuel consumption and negative environmental impacts.
How will I get the delivery? When will I get it?
Your delivery will be left at your house on Friday afternoon. The produce will be in a plastic container with a lid or a wax box. Meat, fish, dairy, etc. will be in a refrigerated bag with an ice pack if outside temperature is above 40 degrees. Let us know if there is a particular place where you would like your delivery left (e.g., your front porch, your garage, inside the house). You can also leave out a cooler in which to put your order. Valley Green Feast hires Pedal People to deliver the orders to Northampton residents by bicycle. We deliver to all other areas with our Van. Please leave your bins and freezer bags out for us to pick up on your next delivery. If you will not be receiving more deliveries but have a Valley Green Feast bin, please let us know and we will come pick it up.
Where do you deliver to?
We currently deliver to many towns between Springfield and Greenfield, including Springfield, West Springfield, Westfield, Holyoke, Chicopee, Amherst, Northampton, Easthampton, South Hadley, Goshen, Turners Falls, Buckland, Montague, Leverett, Williamsburg and Greenfield. We must have 3 orders per town to make a delivery there. Please inquire if you are not sure if we deliver to your town.
How should I pay?
When you order online, you have the option to pay by mailing a check to Valley Green Feast, 12 Arnold Ave, Northampton, MA 01060, leaving a check on delivery day, or we can send you a paypal invoice. Paypal charges a 3% processing fee, so we prefer payments by check. If you will be getting regular orders, you can pay in advance and we will let you know when you have used up your account balance. If a customer has not paid their bill 30 days from a delivery date, their account will be frozen and they will not receive anymore deliveries until they have paid the full balance. Customers can contact us about a payment plan if need be.
Is there a minimum order?
To make each delivery worthwhile, we require a minimum order of $25 for any delivery that does not include a produce box. If you get a produce box with your delivery, don't worry about it (even if you just get a mini box). However, if you only order other products, like meat, yogurt, and bread, you will need to order at least $25 worth so that we can make ends meet. We want this service to still be convenient for you, however, so we suggest perhaps sharing a delivery with friends or getting deliveries every other week if you find it difficult to meet the minimum.
What is the delivery fee?
$6.50 for one time or intermittent deliveries
$3.00 for standing orders
Free delivery for orders over $100.00
Do I get the same thing each week?
No. You will get fresh produce based on what is in season each week. You may get similar items from week to week, but there will also be some variety and an element of surprise. We include a newsletter with recipes and storage tips each week, which highlight any unusual produce. We can cater to your preferences if there are certain vegetables you dont want to receive- just let us know in your order notes.
Can I change my order each week?
You have the option of creating a one time order ($6.50 delivery fee) or a weekly or bi-weekly (every other week) standing order ($3 delivery fee). If you create a standing order, you will get the same products each time, unless you change your order online or call or email us. Please be sure to do this by Tuesday at noon.
Can I order just meat?
Yes. You can order local, natural fish, ground beef, pork, or lamb by the pound. Cuts that we will generally have available are chops, N.Y. Sirloin, blade steaks, roasts, and ground beef. Please let us know if you have any special requests and we can contact our farmers about getting it. You can also choose to order any of the other items (eggs, cheese, bread) without the produce basket. There is minimum order of $25 if you do not order a produce basket.
Will I be able to use it all?
Hopefully! We try to make the size of the produce basket appropriate for the size of households that they are meant for. If you find you don't use your whole produce basket, you could try a smaller size or a bi-weekly delivery.
What do I do if I need to skip a week or cancel my order?
If you are away, you could cancel your order for that week or postpone it. Please email us to let us know by Tuesday at noon! If it is alright with you, we could also work out a plan for putting your order in the fridge in your house if you are just gone for the weekend. Standing orders will be assumed to be the same each week unless changed by Tuesday at noon. If you need to change or cancel an order, please let us know by Tuesday at noon or the order will still be delivered as planned and you will still be charged.
What happens during the winter? Do you still deliver?
During the winter, we offer local apples, pears, winter squash, beets, carrots, celeriac, parsnips, potatoes, onions, garlic, and salad greens. We occasionally supplement these items with Regional (East Coast) organic produce. If you want local produce only, we offer a local only produce basket.
How do you choose your farms?
The farms from which we get our produce are all local, mostly organic farms (except in the winter when we occasionally supplement with regional organic produce). We choose farms that have high quality products and sound environmental and social practices.
What else do you sell?
We carry local food, most of which is organic. We are currently offering produce, eggs, cheese, yogurt, beef, lamb, chicken, fish, pork, bread, soup, soap, coffee and apple pie. We are also offering gift baskets. We would love to include more offerings, if there are certain items that you would like to see offered, please let us know.
What if the weather is bad on a delivery day?
In the event of dangerous driving conditions, deliveries will be delayed one day or otherwise re-arranged. Customers will be notified by email of this delay.
What is your policy for refunds or exchanges?
We pride ourselves on delivering high quality produce and local food, filling your order correctly, and providing excellent service.
We only want to send you produce that you can use, and by the nature of the the service, every now and then we may miss an item or a bad item might slip by us. If you are missing an item or you receive anything that you are dissatisfied with, please let us know. We will credit your account for the value of the item.
