Product Highlight: Sidehill Farm Yogurt

We are excited to offer delicious, healthy yogurt from Sidehill Farm in Ashfield. Here is a little bit of information about the farm, the cows, and the yogurt. If you haven’t tried it yet you should!

Sidehill Farm is run by Amy Klippenstein and Paul Lacinski. They raise organic vegetables of have a herd of 35 Normande and Canadienne milking cows. They sell raw milk at the farm, and their amazing yogurt is widely available. What makes their yogurt so good? It starts with the grass.

The cows graze on ecologically managed pasture in the spring, summer and fall and eat hay and hayledge in the winter. They feed on over 100 species of pasture plants, getting a wide range of nutrients. Because cows are meant to eat grass, cows raised on pasture are healthier than those confined inside a barn, eating a diet high in grain and other concentrated feeds. Milk and meat from grass-fed cows have much higher levels of good Omega-3 fatty acids, and lower levels of unhealthy Omega-6's. Levels of beta-carotene and vitamins A and D are also higher in milk from grass-fed cows.

A blend of probiotic cultures is added to the milk to turn it into yogurt. No other additives or thickeners are used. You can enjoy their yogurt for breakfast with cereal or granola, as a snack or desert with fruit and maple syrup, as a side dish for spicy foods or just by itself!
